About Us

All students of the faculty are member of the Fachschaft (student body). Everyone that studies at the maths faculty is automatically a member of the Maths-Fachschaft — same for the faculty of Informatics (computer science).
When talked about the Fachschaft, most mean the active members: Those are students that engage themselves voluntary. They may want to change something about the studies or just help fellow students. They represent the student body towards the faculty or are happy to take over responsibility in the Fachschaft. Since not everyone has the same opinions, opinions are formed during the Fachschaftsrat. All students of the maths or informatics department at KIT are allowed to vote on discussion topics.
Due to the fact that the studies of computer science and maths have partially common lectures as well as historic reasons, both departments have one joint student body, the Fachschaft Mathematik/Informatik.
The shared interest of the active student council is to create the conditions for an enjoyable and high-quality course of study. Beyond that, we naturally feel committed to student life as a whole and contribute to the diverse range of activities on campus through our events and student council initiatives.
Our biggest event is the orientation week (O-Phase) at the beginning of each semester. This event ensures that the start of your studies goes as smoothly as possible. First-year students receive all essential information about their degree program during this week. Further it's a great event to get to know Karlsruhe, the KIT, and friendships can be found.
In addition, we also provide advice on study related topics and old exams—both written and oral—can be printed.
Further assistance is for example the rental of lockers in the Computer Science building.
We provide further information about events, activities, jobs and more are on our mailing lists and social media channels.
